US/UK DIFFERENCE
In American English, gotten is the usual past participle of get : I'd gotten an A on the test. | It has gotten really warm. | I heard they had gotten divorced.
gotten is not used as the past participle for got to meaning 'must'. Speakers of American English say had to rather than had got to : We had to be there on time.
In British English, gotten is not used. The past participle of get in British English is got : I had got a letter from my sister in Australia.
